No, I’m not moving there (yet, though there’s always the chance), but I will be visiting the City by the Bay this weekend, along with a quick side trip to Cupertino and 1 Infinite Loop (if I can make it to some of the other companies in the surrounding area that will be a bonus).

I’m looking forward to spending time with some friends and making new ones, and in general getting a taste for the city. I have a lot of friends in the world of a cappella who live on the west coast, and now a growing list of friends and collegues, so the temptation to move is definitely growing.

Expect new pics on Flickr in the very near future…

UPDATE: It seems there’s also a book based on this series of articles (“CSS Analysis”) titled “CSS Professional Style” (thanks Toru). I’ve placed an order, but I’m not sure if the SB article is in the book… the SB article is indeed in the book, thanks again to Toru for the confirmation…

Let’s turn back the clock a little, shall we? And I do mean a little: February 2005 to be exact. Apparently, thanks to a few Minty-fresh referrer links, I’ve discovered that the late-2004/most of 2005 design of SB was featured in the February 2005 issue of Japan’s Web Designing magazine, in an article about XHTML/CSS. In fact, from the screen shots scans that I was sent (and now can’t find… grr… found them!) the entire article was about SB.

Superfluous.

The fifth and final day of my inaugural SxSW experience started, well, late. After returning to my hotel the night before (well, earlier that morning to be more accurate) I had all intentions of waking up at 9am Tuesday, but apparently I was sleeping heavily enough to ignore a nuke going off next to my head…

Soooo, after getting to the Convention Center around lunch time, and hanging out with other tired folks in the hallway, my first panel of the last day was Dogma Free Design (yes, the 3:30pm panel… oh hush…). I had been looking forward to this panel, but I was let down — there was a lot of talk about “checklists” and how to deal with large organizations’ propensity to require (nay, indulge in) mounds of unnecessary (useless?) paperwork, excel spreadsheets, etc. Not that the subject matter wasn’t important to a certain segment of the audience, but I think the title and description of the panel were misleading. Moving on…

Monday morning was actually more like Monday afternoon after my 6:30am return to L’Auberge De Wellesley, so I missed the first few panels (which was unfortunate, since I really wanted to attend CSS Problem Solving and Microformats: Evolving The Web, but as it turns out I didn’t miss much: the general consensus seems to be that the CSS panel was a mixture of boring and not useful, and that Microformats are an interesting idea that just doesn’t seem to have a lot of practical use outside of the blogging universe at this point in time… I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on those guys though).
