Web Host Suggestions

MacOS.net is moving.

For var­i­ous rea­sons, some finan­cial, oth­ers tech­no­log­i­cal, and a few weird ones thrown in for good mea­sure, we’re plan­ning to move all our servers from our cur­rent loca­tion in South Florida.

We’re look­ing at a few co-lo ser­vices right now, as well as con­sid­er­ing drop­ping our own servers and switch­ing to Linux-based servers man­aged by whichever host­ing firm we select, but I’d like to hear your sug­ges­tions from your per­sonal and pro­fes­sional experiences.

The front-runner in our search so far is West­Host, whose Vir­tual Ded­i­cated Server (VDS) option looks very entic­ing. We’d love an option like that, but we’re con­cerned with speed and flex­i­bil­ity as well.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and sug­ges­tions, espe­cially regard­ing West­Host (and their VDS con­cept) or any other firm which offers a sim­i­lar ser­vice at a com­pa­ra­ble price. I’ve got a few days to gather com­ments before we have to com­mit to a deci­sion, so fire away!

    hmmm… not sure if they offer every­thing that you’re look­ing for, but my host insiderhosting.com has demon­strated excel­lent ser­vice dur­ing my time with them. i’ve always been amazed at how friendly and expe­di­ent they are in help­ing me when i’ve had any tech­ni­cal issues.

    I’ve hosted var­i­ous sites on West­Host for years (includ­ing Sim­pleBits) — in gen­eral, the ser­vice is excel­lent. The past few weeks they’ve been migrat­ing every­one to “West­Host 2.0″ which is the plat­form I think you’re speak­ing of.

    The migra­tion has caused some hic­cups, but sign­ing on as a new cus­tomer should get you right in the door with all the bells and whis­tles I would assume.

    No expe­ri­ence with West­Host, at least not per­son­ally; how­ever I know of a few peo­ple that use and rec­om­mend them. Not sure if they would be able to fill the needs you have, but I am very happy with DreamHost.com.

    I’m happy with http://www.citizen-hosting.com They have demon­strated excel­lent ser­vice dur­ing my time with them. High band­width, up to date soft­ware sup­port, friendly staffÂ… I can hon­estly say I’m quite sat­is­fied with them.
